Wind, rain, snow, frost. I've never known weather like it. Last Wednesday I stood Stamford Market. It was so cold that I spent all morning scraping ice from our showcases. Not ideal conditions for shopping! A few weeks ago it was wind and rain. Our stall at Belton House actually blew over.

So for 2010 we will be seeking additional ways to sell that do not involve exposure to extreme weather. We will be continuing with our market stalls at Cambridge, Melton Mowbray and Stamford. We have given up our stall at Bingham. It's a friendly little market market but does not offer enough trade, which is a pity.

I love traditional English markets even though they have been damaged by poor planning decisions and the rise of anonymous shopping malls, supermarkets and chain stores. I want to carry on working them because I just love being out there talking to people and watching the world go by. Sharon still likes markets but is not so keen on the weather!
